Professor Alparslan Açıkgenç is an Emeritus Professor of the History of Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy and a Visiting Professor at the Department of Civilization Studies at Ibn Haldun University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Üsküdar University. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Theology, in 1974 and pursued his Master’s education at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Milwaukee, completing it in 1977. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1983.
Professor Açıkgenç began his academic career as an assistant professor in 1984 and became a full professor in 1987. He has held academic positions at the Department of Philosophy at Ankara Middle East Technical University (1983-1993), the University of Chicago (1985), and Tokat University. His areas of interest include Comparative Religion and knowledge systems, contributing significantly to both philosophy and civilization studies.
